Global Rugby, a division of Global Sports Group, Inc. is owned and operated by Patrick Steenberge, former quarterback for the University of Notre Dame and President of Global Football, a Texas based company. He brings some 37 years of business background having specialized in communications, special events production, travel and marketing. Since 1996 Steenberge has organized sporting events and tours for youth, high school, collegiate and alumni football teams throughout the world. He was the creator of and Event Director for the Notre Dame Japan Bowl in 2009 as well as NFL Super Bowl international football events from 1997-2007. In 2011 he will produce the first-ever American football game featuring Drake University, on the African continent.
Coach Sean O’Leary, USA Rugby All American Selector and Global Rugby Technical Director, as well as University of Notre Dame Head Coach, lends decades of experience to the Global Rugby team. Coach O’Leary has an extensive network of rugby contacts around the world, as well as a wealth of knowledge about the sport from his own playing days, and now as a highly respected coach.
With the explosion of rugby’s interest in the United States and it’s inclusion in the 2016 Olympic Games, the timing is perfect to begin providing “ruggers” the opportunity to travel the globe to learn from and play against international teams, as well as develop a special bond that can only come from this type of experience.
